The Gogue Center presents Kodo at the Woltosz Theatre—Thursday, March 20.Exploring the limitless possibilities of the traditional Japanese drum, the taiko, Kodo is forging new directions for a vibrant, living art form. In Japanese, the name “Kodo” conveys two meanings: firstly, “heartbeat,” the primal source of all rhythm; and, secondly, “children of the drum,” a reflection of Kodo’s desire to play the drums simply, with the heart of a child.Since the group’s debut at the Berlin Festival in 1981, Kodo has given more than 3,700 performances across five continents, spending about a third of the year overseas, a third touring in Japan and a third rehearsing and preparing new material on Sado Island.This performance is presented as part of the Gogue Center’s 2024–25 Dance & Movement Series.Our 2024–25 season is sponsored by Walt & Ginger Woltosz.

The Gogue Center presents Anoushka Shankar at the Woltosz Theater—Saturday, March 22.Masterful sitarist Anoushka Shankar comes to Auburn this season, accompanied by a new band of musicians with whom she has carved out an original, multifaceted and dynamic sound. Shankar and her bandmates will perform music from her three newly released mini-albums--"Chapter I: Forever, For Now," "Chapter II: How Dark it Is Before Dawn," and "Chapter III" upcoming in March 2025—alongside thoroughly shaken-up, reinterpreted gems from her previous releases including the Grammy-nominated live album "Between Us..."2025 will mark Shankar’s 30th year as a performing artist, with a band hailed as one of the best ensembles ever to have toured with her. The Gogue Center presents the world premiere of Dorrance Dance's "The Center Will Not Hold" at the Woltosz Theatre—Friday, April 4.Born from “a little room,” "The Center Will Not Hold" is a short duet created and performed by Ephrat Asherie and Michelle Dorrance in December 2022. The now expanded and reimagined work features 11 singular performers deeply rooted in one or many street, club and vernacular dances: house, breaking, hip hop, tap dance, Chicago Footwork, Detroit Jit, Litefeet, Memphis Jookin and body percussion"The Center Will Not Hold" features original music composed by Donovan Dorrance with live percussion by world class drummer and percussionist, John Angeles. The Gogue Center presents Catapult at the Woltosz Theatre—Sunday, April 6.Created in 2008, Catapult is former Pilobolus member Adam Battelstein’s take on ancient Chinese shadow theatre, using bodies instead of puppets. Nothing is left open for interpretation. Accessible to all, the wordless stories transcend language delivering the message clearly and ably.Catapult was propelled into public awareness during its appearance on "America’s Got Talent" in 2013.
